Jagiellonians, Sigismund I the Old (1506-1548), half-penny minted in 1508, Kraków mint.
Second year of minting crown half-penny at the Kraków mint for Sigismund the Jagiellonian.
Obverse: ✠MONETA:SIGISMVNDI
Reverse: ✠REGIS:POLONIE:1508
Silver, diameter 18.2 mm, weight 0.59 grams
An extremely interesting coin, so far not described in numismatic literature. During the making of the stamps for this coin, the letter O was mistakenly stamped sideways in MONETA and POLONIE. The numismatic coin is very rare as there are most likely single stamps with such a "mistake". The coin comes in an envelope with a description of the legend, diameter and weight, and the characteristic features of the coin.
