John III Sobieski (1674-1696), 1684 S.P. sixpence, Bydgoszcz Mint, VERY RARE
One of the rarest types of sixpences from the Bydgoszcz Mint, the coin was struck with the initials S.P. denoting Samuel von Pfachler - the subtenant of the
Mint of Bydgoszcz. The leaseholder of the mints in Bydgoszcz (1684-1685) and Krakow was Spytek Pstrokoński, it was he who subleased the Mint of
Krakowska to R. Bartsch, and the Bydgoszcz one to the aforementioned Pfachler.
This numismatic coin is an example of the combination of two different stamps (the so-called "hybrid stamps") used to mint Sobieski sixpences.
On the obverse we have an image of the king in armor and just the letters S.P., and on the reverse instead of oval shields of arms we have curved shields, which
appear on the sixpences with the image of the king in a toga.
AN UNLISTED ITEM IN MOST COIN CATALOGS OF THE PERIOD.
