Obverse: ✱SIGMVND'DoGoRoPOLO
Reverse: ✠CIVITASoDANSCZoI524
Silver, diameter 17.7 mm, weight 0.86 grams
This is the rarest first vintage of the Danzig shilling of Sigismund the Old. Numismatic in a nice state of preservation for this type. With a roughly struck image of the stamps. With an unprecedented later legend and design of coats of arms. Valor from the first edition of Danzig coins of Sigismund I the Old. It was an edition of shekels minted in the years from 1524 to 1526. There is a claim that these coins were minted from melted Świdnica halfpence. So far this is not confirmed by research, and the very idea of melting the Świdnica coin into other money was submitted by Jost Ludwik Decius in his work "Treatise on the Minting of Coinage" (Monete cussione ratio), which was published in 1526, the last year of minting the Danzig shekels from this edition. The early Danzig shekels of Sigismund I the Old are very rare coins and are sought after by collectors of this minting or denomination. The coin comes in an envelope on which a description of the legend, diameter and weight, as well as the characteristic features of the particular coinage are shown.
